1021 AD. Alchemysts have become renowned throughout the lands. Finally, there is logic behind 'magic' - the people are happy; content. The alchemysts become a "secret" (everyone knows about them anyway, though) society within the monarchy of The Five Lands. Their first project? To experiment on humans.
Dear me, that probably sounds too harsh. Not experiment, per se - more like feed unsuspecting others silly potions that are supposed to grant them 'otherwordly' powers. Not only does the experiment fail - but everyone who had at one point drank from a potion made by an alchemyst ends up dying a horrible death; their bodies left sprawled on the floor, soaked in the color of coughed-up blood. The monarchy, in panic, bans alchemysts from their society and the use of alchemy from there on in.
The Five Lands seem to be in peace... until alchemy appears again, veiling the world in a cloak of uncertainty.
Only, it appears... three hundred years later.
1345 AD. Twenty years have passed since the founding of Vindico, the institute of alchemy. Unknown to the world, excluding the students which reside in the institute's halls, it lies in a forest veiled with magic so powerful that to an untrained eye, it will seem only like a rundown, destroyed mansion. And yet, it is so much more. Humans reside here... humans that are oh-so not ordinary. Some can speak to the dead. Some grow butterfly wings. Others... others can control fire.
The founder's daughter, Mistress Varsha, has taken her place at the school after her mother, who left this world at the tender age of thirty-three - for she was a sprite, a being who could attach her spirit to other objects, animals, and beings. In her death, she attached her spirit to the school - and as long as she lives in this form, the school will never fall. The up side is, the school is now 'magically' catered to - in death, the founder has become the caretaker of the school, the magical entity which controls everything within the school's walls through magic - from cleaning rooms to moving halls, to opening doors - she's the grand puppeteer of this institute, even in death. Too bad that even the aged get mischievous as years pass, huh?
Vindico, though open only for twenty years, is growing every day. Their student count has already reached well above two hundred. And things are beginning to happen. How could they not?
Five years ago, a recent technology came into the hands of the new conclave of alchemysts, who secretly tend to the school. All current students were given shots of mechatechnologies - small alchemyc properties that one can barely make apart from grains of sand, even with a magnifying glass. These were supposed to help the students 'tame their powers' - and they did... but with an unpredictable side effect. Now, not only do the students of Vindico have their human forms... but they are able to be in what the conclave has began to call the Extra Ordinary Form. With gadgets, made of metal and alchemyc properties, students are able to 'transform' into their Extra Ordinary Form - their ordinary clothes gone, a unique outfit of metals, fitted uniquely to their body and powers, replacing the ordinary clothes' place. No one knows how this happened - or how it was even remotely possible to begin with. But what they do know is that, in these forms the students' powers have increased in strength, quite considerably - and are rendered powerless, barely able to use their powers at all (unless extremely powerful) in their 'Ordinary Forms.'
Events are stirring. Ghosts wander the halls; awakened from their long sleep... students are disappearing; screams are heard at night, echoing off of the walls. Nothing, no - no one - is safe anymore. Not even you.
